# Scanova

> Scanova is an AI document scanner and paperwork assistant for iPhone, made by Origin Five Labs. It scans documents to PDF, signs and annotates them, extracts their text, converts Word, Excel and PowerPoint files to and from PDF, scans and creates QR codes, and uses AI to explain documents in plain language, translate them with the layout intact, turn business cards into contacts and make AI Art QR codes. Documents stay on the iPhone; cloud AI runs only when the user asks and agrees. Free to download, with an optional Scanova Pro subscription (yearly, or weekly with a 3-day free trial).

## Key features

- Scan to PDF: automatic edge detection, crop, rotate, retake, filters (original, enhanced, grayscale, black and white), many pages per document.
- Import from Photos and Files (PDF, JPEG, PNG, HEIC), and from other apps through "Open in".
- Sign: draw or type a signature, save up to 5, place, move, resize and rotate it.
- Annotate: text, highlights, freehand drawing, dates, check marks and X marks, with undo.
- Extract text (OCR) on the device: copy, share as text, make the PDF searchable.
- Convert: Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF and PDF to Word (on Scanova's own server, file deleted right after); photos to PDF, PDF to images, merge and split (on the device).
- Files: folders, search by name and by text, Recently Deleted for 30 days; export as PDF or JPG, share, print.
- QR scan (QR codes and barcodes, from the camera or a photo; links shown before opening) and QR create (link, text, Wi-Fi, contact, email, phone; colors, logo, frame); QR history.
- Explain this: summary, document type, key facts, deadlines (Calendar or Reminders), red flags, to-do list and follow-up questions. "AI can make mistakes. This is not legal, financial or medical advice."
- Translate with the layout preserved: source language detected, images, logos and signatures untouched, compare slider, saved next to the original. Handwriting is not translated.
- Business card to contact: name, company, title, phones, emails, website and address; uncertain fields marked; save to Contacts, share or make a contact QR code.
- AI Art QR: QR codes that look like artwork and still scan; styles such as Japanese Wave, Neon City, Watercolor Garden, Latte Art and Origami, or a custom description; two variants, each checked to scan; failed codes never shown or charged.

## Privacy

- Documents, pages, signatures, annotations, QR history and business cards are stored on the iPhone and are not synced.
- No sign-up: the app uses an anonymous ID.
- On-device first: scanning, text recognition, QR reading and business cards run on the iPhone with Apple's frameworks (VisionKit, Vision); Explain this and Translate use Apple Foundation Models and Apple Translation on the device where the iPhone supports them.
- Cloud AI (OpenAI) only when the device cannot do the job, after in-app consent: the document's text is sent, processed for the result and not stored; it is not used to train models. AI Art QR images are generated by EachLabs (the QR code, style and description are sent; descriptions are moderated by OpenAI).
- AI Art QR images are stored with Bunny.net in the EU until the user deletes the account.
- Tracking only with permission: ad attribution (Adjust, Meta, TikTok) uses the advertising identifier only if the user allows it in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Settings › Account › Delete account erases everything on the iPhone and on Scanova's servers.
